Let’s Protect Our Children From Adult Content Online
Many states are now considering legislation that would require websites that feature adult content to utilize age verification measures.
Louisiana and Virginia have passed legislation to this effect.
It is not necessary to see age verification legislation as “anti-porn” as it does not seek to eliminate the production or distribution of the material, only to ensure that those who access it are of age.
There is no freedom of expression issue with regard to this sort of legislation as there is no restriction of expression, only restriction to access based on reasonable age requirements.
There are many products, such as tobacco and alcohol, access to which is restricted by age and for which one is required to provide proof of age.
Reducing access to adult material by children will help to reduce the harm represented by this material. We’ll be exploring and describing potential harm to children in a future video.
We can support this sort of legislation immediately by raising awareness of it.
We’ll be detailing other ways to support this sort of legislation soon.
