Another Texas Police Officer Challenges a Citizen to a Fight: Unbelievable!
In this video, we take a look at a baffling case of another Texas Police officer’s ego and lack of respect for public safety and the law.
On one level, it is baffling that we would be covering two separate cases of Texas police officers, one in Paris and one in Houston, challenging a civilian to a fistfight in response to a rude gesture.
On the other hand, if we keep in mind that we currently do not have significant safeguards preventing people with personality pathologies from being selected, it becomes somewhat less surprising.
In addition, cultures vary among departments. In some cases, aggressive behavior, like the behavior seen in this video, can be accounted for, at least partially, by departmental culture.
Nonetheless, incidents such as the one seen here demonstrate the need for, not only policy and cultural reform but psychological form in the field of policing.
We are challenged to aim research at better understanding the psychology of policing and institute positive measures.
Better selection tools will help us select out personalities more likely to behave like the Texas Police officer in this video.
Psychological monitoring instruments, infrastructure, and policies will help mold understanding and interventions that can be applied to enhance the psychological health of police officers.
Healthy police officers who want to serve their communities are a benefit instead of a threat.
